"grow"

My word for 2018 is "grow."

I'm using it as a reminder to get outside more and enjoy nature.
To stop and play with Scarlett before she grows up enough to not want to hang out with me anymore. To focus more on my marriage and relationships and to nurture them more.
To invest in my savings more so we can hopefully buy a home this year.
To spend more time reading my Bible and growing my relationship with God and expanding my knowledge.
To learn more and grow my skills.
To become a bigger part of my community, even though I'm generally part of Team No New Friends.

I've been encountering the word "grow" all over the place recently, so I'm feeling like it's definitely the right word for 2018.

Do you choose a word for the year? What word did you choose/which word chose you?

Goals for 2018

I can't believe we're already deep into 2018. Time is flying and I'm only just now getting around to making my goals list for the year. I love a good list but I've noticed over the last few years that I've been simplifying my goals each year a bit.  But before we jump into our current goals, let's review last year, shall we?

Read 50 books - Well, close, but no cigar. I ended up reading 36 out of 50 but I'm already ahead of myself for this year so I've got a good feeling about it.

Simplify - We did a lot of work on this one throughout the year. We purged and donated and bought more intentionally but I definitely think it's still an area that needs some more work.

Go 2,017 miles - I don't have the exact numbers on this, but my daily average for 2017 was 3.1 miles so doing the math, that ends up being approximately 1,131.5 miles for the year. Not bad, but definitely not close to my goal.

Save over $1,000 - I didn't end up with a solid $1,000 in savings by the end of the year, but I was closer than ever before and right now it's up to $1,111.03 so I'm counting that as a win!

Organize - I think organizing goes hand in hand with simplifying and I think I did a pretty good job of getting that tackled in 2017.

Bake more - Well, I made a lot of brownies in 2017 but I didn't really rediscover my cupcake side like I used to. Hopefully when we find our forever home and improve our kitchen and oven situation, I can get back to some serious baking.

Take time for myself - I didn't really embrace this one like I should have. I get a decent chunk of quiet time during the day while Scarlett is at school and Nick is at work but I generally end up spending most of it doing chores and busy work instead of using it as quality time for myself.

Now, onto 2018! Here are the goals I have for myself for the year.

Pretty simple and straightforward, right? I'm already six books in to my goal of reading 50 books this year and I'm hoping to simplify not only our stuff but our routines and food and schedule - all the things! I'm working on going 2,018 miles which averages out to 5.5 miles per day. It doesn't seem completely undoable, but I'm already way behind for the year. For January already, I've only averaged 2.5 miles per day so I really need to step it up and add in some serious bicycling days regularly. It'll be tough but doable. We're working on improving our credit and saving up to buy a forever home in the [hopefully] near future. It's stressful but exciting to see things change! And last but certainly not least, it's about time for me to get back to joining the workforce again. It's been almost six years since I left Kaiser to be a stay at home mom and while it's been the best six years ever, it's time. Buying a house will be so much easier if I'm able to contribute financially a bit as well. Fingers crossed that I'm able to find something super soon!

Do you have any goals for this year? Stay tuned for a post in the near future about my "word of the year" as well.

Scarlett Style

It's been quite a while since we've done a Scarlett Style post and while she may have been missing in action from the blog here, she was definitely still staying stylish! My favorite looks she's had recently are her amazing heart-shaped glasses, her rockin' accessories and all of the stuffies and little toys she's been carrying around with her lately. So sweet!

Which look is your favorite?
