currently...

Yay for Friday, right?? This week has been full of minimum days at Scarlett's school so the mornings have been rushed and a bit crazy. I'm looking forward to going back to the regular schedule next week - those ten minutes added back to our mornings are much needed! Here's what I'm up to right now...

Watching - I only have one more episode of Black Mirror on Netflix before I'm completely caught up. That show is so good but it can be so dark and hard to watch, too. And season two of Stranger Things is out today!! Yay!

Reading - I'm about 70% done with the new Magnus Chase book and I splurged a bit yesterday and bought the new Dan Brown book, Origin. I can't wait to dive in!

Eating - It's been tough to find my favorite bagels in our local Safeway in town but Nick found them in the one by his office so he brought me home a few earlier this week. I just ate the last one for breakfast so a bagel run will be needed ASAP! So yummy!

Anticipating - Tomorrow is Isabelle's Harry Potter themed birthday party! I'm so excited to see what she's done for her party. I got some big glasses yesterday at the Halloween store and I'm going to wear all of my frumpy long skirts and sweaters and make my hair really big so I can be Professor Trelawney. I even got Scarlett a toy wand to bring!

Listening To - This playlist on Spotify is awesome!

Working On - I've been working on getting the apartment tidied more regularly. I was able to clear out some storage totes that had been cluttering up our living space and I bagged up the donations that need to go. It makes such a difference to have a few more clear spots in the living areas. It's an ever evolving process, though, so there's always more to work on.

Loving - There was misty fog all along the drive to school this morning! I was so happy! I hope it sticks around. It makes everything feel so much more cozy! Yay for fall!

What are you up to? Any plans for the weekend?

scarlett style

Scarlett has been a bit subdued in her style lately. She's been more focused on being creative and crafty instead of looking for her clip on earrings and hair bows and that's totally fine and fun, too. Halloween is next week so I have a feeling she's going to jump back in to expressing herself with her fashion sooner rather than later...

I love her super high Harry Potter knee socks and how she's recently been adding a hair bow to the ear of her kitty headbands. So cute!

Stay fashionable! See you next week!

isabelle is 11!!!

When did it happen that my little baby niece all of a sudden grew up?!?!?!? That's not allowed!! She's supposed to be a tiny little bald baby forever, right???

Yes to all of these!!

All of this growing up sassafras is a definite no!! Shut it down!!

This is the last year that she's allowed to get any older. Eleven is the cutoff. I'm putting my foot down.

Happy Birthday Isabelle!! Eat some lobster for me tonight!

an afternoon kulning...

Have you ever heard of kulning? It's a fascinating way to call livestock home that has been used in Scandinavia for centuries by mostly women, but some men do it as well. Scarlett discovered a YouTube channel that features kulning and she was hooked.

Yesterday she went outside to play and within minutes I heard a familiar sound floating up from the playground downstairs...

Scarlett was giving kulning her best try and it was adorable! I'm sure the neighbors were thrilled, too. 😉

random ramblings...

There is something hopelessly spring-like in the air today, even though all the leaves are turning orange and red and brown and falling all over the place. Halloween is next week and it's supposed to be in the 80s for the next few days. Fall can be so fickle, but it sure is pretty.

I'm sitting at my dining room table attempting to drink a double shot of espresso [last night was a rough one] but I don't feel like I'm enough of an adult to actually drink it straight so I added some vanilla syrup to sweeten it up a bit. I might be able to tolerate it that way. Baby steps to adulthood!

Earlier I was calling and calling for Scarlett, who was supposed to be cleaning her room before ballet class, and getting more and more cranky when I got no response. The music in her room was turned up pretty loudly so I went in to make sure she was cleaning and not playing around and this is what I found:

She had the iPod under the blanket with her, still playing Meghan Trainor at nearly top volume while Scarlett was snoring away... Last night was rough for her, too. So I turned the volume down, readjusted her blanket so she wasn't completely covered and let her sleep.  I wish I could nap as easily as she can. I would be invincible!

I was reading back through some of the old blog posts and I really miss Nick's 90s Picks and Songs to Scrub Dishes By. I think I need to bring back some sort of music based post, even if it means just adding a "Listening To" section to my Currently posts. What do you think? Do you even want to know what I'm listening to lately?

Here's to more random ramblings in this space and more quiet afternoons to write them. Have an amazing week!

currently... on a monday.

Hello and welcome to a new week! I hope you had a fun and awesome weekend. We went to Six Flags and got totally overwhelmed by all the people, but we picked up our season passes so stay tuned for some amusement park posts throughout the upcoming year. Here's what I'm up to right now...

Watching - I'm back on Supernatural right now, although my sister has caught up with me on The Vampire Diaries so I should give that some time, too. And I finally watched Wonder Woman! I really liked it! Scarlett fell asleep but we'll watch it again.

Reading - While Nick and I were out for our anniversary last weekend browsing in a bookstore, I mentioned that it should be about time for a new Rick Riordan book and the next thing I knew, Nick handed me the new Magnus Chase book! I was so happy! I didn't even know it was out yet! So I've been devouring that and I also checked out To All the Boys I've Loved Before as an ebook. I'm only a few pages in so far, but I like it.

Eating - Nick has been narrowing down the food that triggers his digestive system to get all out of whack and it's looking more and more like it might be a lactose intolerance that's the culprit. If that's the case, it will be awesome to be able to cook again with a pretty good knowledge of what he can and can't have. He can somehow live without ice cream and he had the most amazing strawberry sorbet at Fenton's on Saturday night that could absolutely be a regular treat for all of us! Fingers crossed that lactose is his only issue and we can work on getting back to normal [or at least, a new normal] around here soon.

Anticipating - This week is parent teacher conference week at Scarlett's school so every day is a minimum day. I'm going to take Scarlett to see the new My Little Pony movie later this week and I'm pretty excited about it myself!

Working On - I've been feeling super old lately. Like, my knees are hurting more often and I've been getting cranky over things that really aren't that big a deal. I want to try to get outside more often and explore our new hometown. Hopefully I'll be able to get some regular walks back in my schedule again like I used to, with some epic walks on the weekends. I'm adding it back into my daily routine!

Loving - It's been pretty cold around here in the mornings and it's so nice to be able to snuggle under the covers for a few minutes before starting the day. It's my favorite!

I hope you have a fun week planned! What are you up to??

eleven years...

Last weekend, Nick and I took a little road trip down the coast and stayed in a "canvas bungalow" by the beach. Our accommodations were sparse, but we spent so much time along the coast that our room didn't really matter very much. We had so much fun and were able to just relax and go with the flow. Not a bad way to spend our eleventh wedding anniversary.

We had some amazing food - stew and risotto with seafood and the yummiest breakfast ever at an adorable little French bakery.

We hit up the beach and Nick left me to exploring on a huge rock out in the surf. It was beautiful but I wasn't wearing the right shoes to go be adventurous with him. Next time for sure, though!

Nick is a tiny little spec in the picture above!

We watched the sun set on our anniversary before grabbing a quick dinner and heading back to our bungalow. So pretty!

It was so nice to get away for a few days and just unplug and relax. We slept surprisingly well for being in a glorified tent all night but I would totally do it again in a heartbeat. We missed Scarlett like crazy but she had a blast with her cousins and grandparents and auntie eating ice cream and riding her scooter. I need more grown up weekends!
