Happy Friday! I hope you have something fun planned for this holiday weekend. Scarlett and her cousins are going to hang at her grandpa's house for a few hours tomorrow so the grown ups can have some down time. Woo hoo! Here's what I'm up to right now...

Reading - I'm reading Alex & Eliza right now. The girls and I spend most days listening to the Hamilton soundtrack, so it's fun to read something about them, too. So far, so good.

Watching - I'm still going through Supernatural on Netflix but I'm in the last season available so far. My time is running out! Next up is probably going to be Riverdale. It looks pretty interesting and I've been wanting to see it for a while. They just added it to Netflix! Yay!

Anticipating - We're heading out for a family vacation next week and it's going to be awesome! I can't wait! More info to come...

Listening To - The new Alestorm album came out today so it's probably going to be in heavy rotation over here during the three day weekend. *Explicit Content Alert!*

Eating - I'm still way too into Swedish Fish... Like, it's becoming a problem. I might need an intervention soon. Send help!

Working On - I'm still working on purging and simplifying around here. This week the focus is on clothes and even though I've gone through mine pretty recently, I'm still going to give it another pass tonight and see what else I can get rid of. The more, the better, right?

What do you have planned for this weekend? Any barbecues or campouts? Drop me a line in the comments and fill me in! Happy weekend!

love & cupcakes,

scarlett style!

Scarlett only has a week left of kindergarten and then the summer of Scarlett Style can begin! No more school uniforms for a few months! Woo hoo!

Summer - here we come!

love & cupcakes,

Woo hoo for Friday! We made it through another week! This week has been full of toy purging, errand running and school concerts. I'm already exhausted and looking forward to a chill weekend - which isn't actually very likely. Blargh. Here's what I'm up to...

Reading - I'm still trudging through King's Cage. I really need to buckle down and do some serious reading!! I'm running out of time!!

Watching - I'm totally bingeing on Supernatural. I'm about halfway through season 10 on Netflix and I really have no desire to watch anything else until I'm completely caught up. I'm fully hooked. Also, season four of Sherlock just dropped on Netflix and WE ARE SO EXCITED!! We already blew through the first two episodes so we only have one more to go. I'm going to be so sad when we're caught up again... I want more!!

Anticipating - I'm heading in to San Francisco today to join Nick for his company's movie day! We get to see Alien: Covenant and I'm already a bit nervous that I'm going to get scared and embarrass myself during the movie.

Eating - Oh my goodness - Scarlett shared her Pocky with me the other day and now I'm completely hooked! It was so yummy!!

Working On - I'm still trying to get Scarlett's room decluttered. It's most of the way there, but we still have a bit more to get through. She's a trooper though, so we've made great progress already.

Wishing - Right now I'm wishing for some serious down time. I feel like I've been rushing around all over the place lately. I need some time to just chill on the couch and relax. Someday, right??

I hope you have some fun stuff planned for the weekend! It;s going to be hot out here so we might end up either by the pool or the beach - I'm hoping for the latter! Happy weekend!

love & cupcakes,

a simple year...

Earlier this year I chose a word for 2017. I chose the word "prosperity" for the year to remind me to be more mindful of our budget, spend on experiences and not things and so on...

Cut to a few months in and it would appear that the word I chose wasn't the right word at all. My word for 2017 apparently should have been "simplify."

I feel like the word "simplify" goes hand in hand with the word "abundant" - even though it doesn't seem like they go well together. If you simplify, that's the opposite of abundant, right? Except the more I spend time simplifying my home and life, the more time I find on my hands. Time to relax and think, to play with Scarlett, to recharge and to think about our future plans. Simplifying has made my life more abundant.

In doing the #DeclutterLikeAMother challenge this month, we've cleared out so many things that were just taking up our time and energy around here and it's so much nicer to be home now. Scarlett's room is looking so much better and more fun to play in - there aren't a ton of random toys and activities just scattered all over her room. She's actually been playing in there for the last few days and she's been excited to tidy up the space when she's done for the day. It's so refreshing! It's not completely done yet - her desk and the shelves under her bed are still piled high with randomness, but it'll be done by the end of the week.

I'm so happy that this challenge has helped me to find my word for the year. Life runs so much smoother when you're not bogged down with chores and cleaning up all day everyday. Here's to  a simple year!

love & cupcakes,

Mom's Day 2017

I hope all you moms out there had a super relaxing day yesterday and were pampered and doted on and got everything your heart desired - or at least didn't have too many extra dishes to wash today left over from yesterday, right??

We spent our morning at church watching Scarlett, Isabelle and Kaiden sing in the kid's choir performance. It was adorable!

After church, we headed to the grocery store to grab some stuff to make for lunch at home. Jalapeno poppers - my request! So yummy, too! And then I got to settle in on the couch with some mimosas and watch Pirates of the Caribbean with Scarlett - her choice but totally fine by me.

We ended the day with some more relaxing on the couch and the promise of a sushi dinner tonight. Dinner will probably be on the couch too - there are new Sherlock episodes to watch on Netflix so I totally want to stay in tonight!

I hope your Mother's Day weekend was awesome!

love & cupcakes,

Happy end of the week! This one has been full of random kitchen purging for me. I'm still working on the Declutter Like a Mother challenge and the kitchen was a bit tough for me - I recently went through everything in there so it was hard to find more to get rid of for this week. But I still did what I could and ended up cleaning out the pantry, so it wasn't a total bust. Here's what else I'm up to right now...

Reading - I'm still making my way through King's Cage. I'm taking way too long, though. I need to set aside some serious time this weekend and just plow through it.

Watching - I'm in season ten of Supernatural on Netflix so far. Only one more to go until I'm caught up to the current season on TV!

Anticipating - Mother's Day is only two days away and my dreams of sleeping in and having breakfast in bed have been dashed because Scarlett's kid's choir is performing at church at 9am and then again at 11am. But that's okay - I'll sacrifice some sleeping time to watch her sing in her first choir performance! So cute!

Listening To - Have you heard the new album from DREAMCAR? It's the guys from No Doubt and Davey from AFI together. Pretty good stuff!

Eating - Starbucks' Frappuccino Happy Hour has been the death of me this week... 😁

Working On - I'm still working on simplifying the apartment. I feel like as soon as I get to the "end" of the process, I'm just going to need to start over again and simplify even more.

Happy Weekend! I hope you have something fun planned for your mom/mother figure!

love & cupcakes,

Scarlett Style!

It's been a while but I'm bringing Scarlett Style back! School is almost out for her so brace yourself for some summertime style coming your way in the upcoming months...

As cute as I think her school uniforms are, I'm so excited for the days when she gets to wear whatever she chooses again! Stay tuned for more!

Declutter Like a Mother Challenge - Week One Recap

Well, I made it to the end of the first week of the #DeclutterLikeAMother challenge and I'm exhausted. I was able to clear a ton of stuff out of my closet [no clothes yet, though], linen closet and bathroom. I have so many things in my living room ready to be cleared out of the apartment.

I even cleared out my makeup - and I know makeup and bathroom stuff isn't supposed to be sentimental and difficult to get rid of, but for me - it totally is! I always ask for makeup and eyeshadow palettes for my birthday and Christmas so choosing any of them to get rid of is so hard. But I did it - my makeup dresser is so much lighter now and I was even able to really simplify my makeup bags.

Honestly, it gets easier and easier to let stuff go the more I do it. Each pass ends with more bags and boxes to donate and a lighter load in the apartment.  I forgot to take before pictures but trust me, all of these spaces were so much more crowded and full before I started. I'll keep updating as the weeks go by. Wish me luck!

love & cupcakes,

Happy Friday! And Happy Cinco De Mayo! Here's what I've been up to...

Reading - I'm reading King's Cage right now. I like it so far. Hopefully it will wrap things up nicely for the Red Queen series.

Watching - I just started watching Supernatural again. I haven't had much time lately to really sit and watch anything on Netflix so I'm trying to squeeze in an episode here and there when I can.

Anticipating - Scarlett and I are driving a few hours up north tomorrow to visit my best friend for her son's first communion. I kind of like the drive so it'll be nice to spend some car time with Scarlett, singing along to the radio at the top of our lungs. There will probably be a ton of coffee and snack stops along the way, too.

Listening To - I finally renewed my Spotify premium membership so we've been able to listen to all of our favorites again. Scarlett has recently discovered Elena of Avalor and is thrilled that they have the soundtrack available on Spotify.

Eating - Oh my goodness - I made the mistake of buying a little bag of Swedish Fish the other day and I'm completely hooked on them now. So yummy! Although I bought a generic bag from the convenience store yesterday and they WERE NOT as good as the original. Generic is NOT the way to go when you want some Swedish Fish.

Working On - I'm still doing the #DeclutterLikeAMother challenge for May. I've done the bathrooms so far and I'm planning on working on the linen closet later today. It's definitely slow going but I'm making progress. Baby steps!

Wishing - I've discovered that my "love language" is quality time/quality conversation and my love tank is super low these days. It's been a bit crazy around here lately so I'm really looking forward to carving out some time soon for Nick and I to have some serious date days/nights. Maybe an overnight trip to the beach or something...

I hope you have some fun plans for this weekend! What's going on in your neck of the woods??

Declutter Like a Mother Challenge

Is anyone else participating in Allie Casazza's #DeclutterLikeAMother challenge for May? It's day one and I'm getting ready to tackle my bathrooms. I've already purged a bunch of stuff from each bathroom in the last month or so but I know if I go though them each again, I'll have more to get rid of. It's super tough to get started with getting rid of things and simplifying, but each time I go through, it gets so much easier. It really forces me to look at what I actually want/need/use and it's not as hard as I go on.

Wish me luck as I work my through our bathrooms and closets this week!
