Happy Friday! It's a wonderfully rainy day over here and after I pick Scarlett up from school, we're doing a quick library run and then hiding out inside for the rest of the day. Maybe we'll bake some goodies and get cozy with a movie. Sounds like a plan to me! Here's what else I've been up to lately...

Reading - I finished Fangirl and am almost done with The 5 Love Languages. Maybe I'll pick up a new book at the library this afternoon!

Watching - My TV shows are still all the same but we finally got to see Beauty and the Beast in the theater earlier this week for a family evening. It was so good! I loved it!

Anticipating - We don't have anything extra planned for the weekend - just the usual routine of gymnastics and church. I'm super excited to just hang out and not feel rushed or obligated to do anything. I could use a nice day at home.

Listening To - Our church service The Foundry has started posting our worship songs on our Facebook page so I started a Spotify playlist to keep track of them all. I'm excited to add to it each week!

Working On - Still simplifying. I'm trying to pare down our bathroom today and hopefully Scarlett's room will follow. Wish me luck!

What are you up to? Anything fun and amazing??

love & cupcakes,

Happy St Patrick's Day! Are you wearing green today or have you already been pinched?? Scarlett was so excited to wear green to school today - it's a nice change from her all-blue school uniform. Any time she gets to wear something different than her usual uniform is a good day for her.  And after school today she gets to watch Moana with her classmates so it's a wonderful way to kick off her weekend. Here's what I'm up to...

Reading - I'm still working on Fangirl and still really enjoying it. I also started reading The 5 Love Languages and it's really interesting so far!

Watching - I've been bingeing Sister Wives on Hulu and I'm a bit embarrassed about it. But no too embarrassed to stop watching...

Anticipating - Nick took a few days off of work next week and we're finally going to take our family trip to the snow! I love to watch Nick and Scarlett play and I love being in the cold. Stay tuned for millions of pictures to come!

Eating - A Smart and Final just opened up near our house and I'm so excited about it! I love all the variety they have and I'm glad it's so close to us. I stocked up on more Brussels sprouts so I can roast some up for diner soon. And I got stuff to make jalapeno poppers soon! Yum!

Working On - I'm still working on downsizing our stuff and living more simply. Sometimes it's super easy to touch something and think "This can go" and into the donate box it goes. But other times, it's much much harder... Baby steps, I guess.

What are you up to lately? Any fun weekend plans??

helping those that need help...

Each Friday after I pick Scarlett up from school, we grab a coffee at Starbucks and usually pass a man with a sign on our way home. His sign says that he's a Veteran and hungry and we give him whatever money we have in the car.

Last week on our drive, Scarlett sat in the backseat of the car, looking for the man with the sign and he wasn't there. I told her not to worry about it - we'd probably see him again soon. But she didn't want to just hang on to her three dollars. She wanted to use it to help those that need it. I reminded her that the Foundry was going to have an event to help raise money to benefit the free dining program and Scarlett wasn't content to donate just her three dollars.

As soon as we got home, she raided her candy jar and made a big pile of candies to sell to raise money. She also drew some pictures and loaded it all into a bucket to bring around our apartment complex to let people know she was raising money. It was all very cute and sweet and I told her to have fun while she was out.

Cut to a few hours later and I'm pretty worried because she's been out for longer than usual and the sun has just gone down. She comes back up to our apartment and gets a pretty stern talking to. When I'm done being worried and she's apologized for being gone so long, I remember that she went down to raise money and I asked her how it had gone, thinking she hopefully made a few dollars. She handed me her little bag and when I looked inside, I was surprised to see how heavy it was and shocked to see how many dollars were crumpled inside. We counted the money and it was over $20! And most of the candy she had brought down to "sell" was still in the bucket - people just gave to her freely when she told them that she wanted to raise money to help others.

I was so proud of her efforts and she was beaming with happiness at the prospect of using this money to help others that needed it. And the fact that she raised the money all on her own was wonderful. Her heart makes me happy and inspires me to no end.

When she gave her donation to the Foundry on Sunday morning, the pastor asked her to come up to the front and had me share her donation story. She got a round of applause and even a jar of flowers to take home as a thank you for her efforts. She was a little overwhelmed with the attention and applause - I think she was already just happy to have donated and didn't understand why people seemed to be making a big deal out of it. And that makes me prouder than anything - she didn't do it for the praise and the spotlight. She did it just because it was what people needed and she wanted to help. I hope it sparked in her a lifelong love of helping others.

love & cupcakes,

Happy Friday! This week has been a doozy... Scarlett got sick at school the other day and had to come home early and that completely screwed up our daily routine for a while. But we're back to the grind and looking forward to the weekend! Here's what I'm up to right now...
Reading - I just started Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell and I'm already hooked. I want to just be reading all the time - chores be damned!
Watching - I'm on season 8 of Supernatural and I'm still totally into it. Only three more seasons to go on Netflix until I'm caught up to the real world!
Listening To - My friend Jason has gotten me totally into the group Joseph on Spotify. Even Scarlett is singing along!
Eating - I roasted some brussels sprouts the other day inspired by a recipe from A Beautiful Mess and they were AMAZING! I need to stock up on more sprouts because I could easily eat this a few times a week. Definitely give them a try - so yum!
Working On - I was trying to do the whole "40 bags in 40 days" purging challenge for Lent but I've already totally blown it. But I've decided to be easier on myself lately and give myself a break. I've gotten a few more bags loaded up with things to donate and that's an awesome start. I'll add more as I go along and eventually, I'll get to 40 bags. No worries.
Wishing - The weather has taken a turn for the sunny and I'm already missing those torrential downpours... Rain, rain, come back again!
I hope your week has been amazing and that you have more amazingness waiting for you this weekend. What are you up to?
love & cupcakes,

a day for nick!

We celebrated this guy's birthday last weekend with some beer, some brownies and a big new scooter! Nick has to park pretty far away from the train station each day for work and has quite the trek to get to and from the station. I showed my mom where he parks and how far he has to walk and she was furious. She didn't want her son in law walking that far after work in the dark and rain so she decided to get him an adult sized scooter so he can cut his walking time in half! It's the cutest thing to see him zipping along on his scooter [that he named "Ride-ly"] and even cuter when Scarlett is out there riding along with him.

After we had family time at the brewery, we spent the next day at the mall so Nick could spend his birthday gift cards. He ended up getting two Pokemon card decks so he and Scarlett could pay together. We hung out at Dave and Buster's for a while, too, and Scarlett and Nick are the best team on video games.

We grabbed a late lunch together after and then head home to relax. I think it was an awesome way to spend a weekend and I'm glad we got to celebrate Nick.
