farewell 2016...

As 2016 draws to a close, I can't say that I'll miss it very much. This year has been a rough one. There have been trials and seasons of growth, hills and deep valleys. I can't wait for 2017 - it's going to be amazing.

Scarlett left a little message for Nick outside of our apartment. So sweet!

The last sunset of 2016.

We spent our last evening having some girl time while Nick was out driving for Lyft. We did sparklers before he left for some family time and Scarlett had a blast!

Okay 2017 - bring it on! We're ready for you!

Happy New Year!

love & cupcakes;

Hello there! It's almost 2017 so we'd better take a look back on Christmas before the year ends.

We had so much fun. We had plenty of family time, lots of presents and parties and sparkly Christmas trees. This holiday season has flown by, as it usually does. My family has discovered Amazon wishlists, though,  so gift giving should be super simple, easy and done early for 2017!

Oh! Scarlett also lost her very first tooth on Christmas Eve! The Tooth Fairy and Santa came on the same night! So exciting!

All in all it was a lovely holiday and I'm excited for next year! I feel like I'll be ready early and better able to really relax and enjoy the season. I hope your Christmas was amazing, too!

in the suck

You know how sometimes things seem pretty bleak and dreary? Like nothing is going well and there isn't any end in sight to all the sad you're feeling al of a sudden? I call it "the suck" and I've been deep in it for a while. So deep that I backed out of a road trip to Portland with my bestie to visit my other bestie. Major bummage...

But Nick and Scarlett have been there to bring me back from the edge lately. And I've really needed these two faces to bring me back.

They're my sunshine on a cloudy day, the spring in my step and all the other cheesy things songs reference... And I love them.

love & cupcakes,

girls day at the movies!

Scarlett is off of school for the next two weeks and we kicked off her winter vacation by having a movie day for just us two girls. We finally got to see Moana and it was fantastic! I laughed and cried and loved it so much! Scarlett even spent the entire time the credits were rolling dancing in the aisle. I definitely recommend seeing it.

We had been listening to the soundtrack a little bit before we saw the movie and Scarlett was so excited to recognize a couple of her favorite voices from the Hamilton soundtrack as voices on Moana, too! We were listening to We Know The Way and Scarlett perked up and said, "Is this Alexander Hamilton?!?" She totally recognized Lin-Manuel Miranda's voice!

After the movie, Scarlett went for a pretend ride on one of the motorcycle video games in the lobby. She even hung her new Tsum Tsum purse off the back of it while she rode. She's the coolest.

More winter break fun to come!

love & cupcakes,

Scarlett is Six!

We've been off the grid for a while and it was kind of nice here in the quiet. But we're back now and ready to celebrate Scarlett's sixth birthday!

Her actual birthday was last week and she started off the day with balloons and presents before breakfast.

She was super excited to have a free dress day at school and she got to bring goodie bags for her entire class!

We surprised her after school with some pizza and playtime before we met up with Nick for a family sushi dinner and frozen yogurt.

We had her birthday party on Saturday in the pouring rain at her grandpa's house and even though the weather didn't cooperate, she had a blast!

I can't believe that my little lady is six years old already! Where did the time go???
