a halloween parade...

Scarlett had her very first school Halloween parade earlier today and it was the cutest thing! The entire school lined up in a big square in the middle of the schoolyard and all the kids sat around the perimeter. Then, they started playing the Ghostbusters theme song [all the office staff dressed up as the Ghostbusters] and the littlest kids got up and walked around the inside of the square to show their costumes off. As they walked, more classes joined the line until the entire school had walked the perimeter and waved to all the other students and all of us parents who had crowded around to watch. After everyone was done, the assistant principal said that if there were any younger siblings who had to come watch the parade and were dressed up, they could take a walk around the square and have their own parade. So cute! I'll admit, I got a little choked up when Scarlett started her walk. I remember having a Halloween parade every year when I was in elementary school and now I get to watch from the other side as one of the parents. It was bittersweet but so wonderful.

Happy Sunday! Tomorrow is Halloween - are you ready? I just spent the afternoon sewing Nick's pocket back on to his shirt for his costume. He's going as a Trader Joe's employee with a stuffed animal stuck to his back and lollipops in his pocket. Do any of you look for the hidden stuffed animal at Trader Joe's, too? Scarlett loves to try and find it - getting a lollipop for telling a crew member where it is is just an added bonus. Here's what I'm up to right now...

Reading - I'm reading The Hammer of Thor, the second book in the Magnus Chase series. I love everything Rick Riordan writes and the Nordic gods have a special place in my heart, so this series is basically the greatest thing ever.

Watching - I'm still bingeing on How I Met Your Mother. I think I'm in season four now. Only five more to go! And my mom told me that I should check out American Housewife and she was right - I totally love it!

Anticipating - I'm excited for Scarlett's Halloween parade at school tomorrow! It'll be her very first one! She's pretty excited.

Eating - Nick took us out for sushi the other night after Scarlett's school dance [It was so cute! Post to come...] and now I'm craving more. So yummy!

Working On - I'm working on clearing out some space in our apartment. It feels pretty crowded in here lately and with birthdays and the holidays coming, the more room we have, the better!

Wishing - As much as Scarlett has grown up this past year, I wish she could just stay little for a while longer. She tried to make coffee for us this morning and didn't do a terrible job of it. And I found these old Vine videos and it's killing me how cute and small she was...

I hope your Halloweekend is going amazingly! What are you up to?

a case of the sniffles...

Scarlett came home from school a few days ago with a bit of a cough. Not a big deal. She wasn't feeling sick or anything, but the cough progressed a bit and the other night she was having a really tough time falling [and staying] asleep because she kept coughing. I was laying down with her and trying to keep her comfortable when sure enough, she coughed right into my open eye. So gross. And once someone coughs in your eye, you're done for. Sickness caught.

Cut to two days later, and I'm hiding out in our apartment for the day while Nick takes Scarlett to her gymnastics class [It's her first day in gym 2! Go Scarlett!] and lets me rest. I don't know about you, but generally, I feel like I'm in major need of a rest day. The day to day cleaning and running errands and watching the kids and following the schedule wears me down little by little until a day without a huge to do list sounds like a dream. But now that I have one, all I can do is think about all of the things around here that need to be done! I've already read about a quarter of the library book I just checked out, took a shower, did a few loads of laundry, washed the dishes, cleaned off the counter, made the bed, cleaned the bathroom sink, watched a few episodes of How I Met Your Mother and tidied up the living room.

Being a grown up sucks.

scarlett style...

Happy Wednesday! Here's what Scarlett's been rocking lately...

She had Rainbow Day at school last week and wore her most colorful outfit. And she got to wear her Frankie Stein costume for her cousin's birthday party - she loved it!

sunday at the pumpkin patch...

Last weekend Scarlett and I spent the morning with friends at a pumpkin patch run by a family farm. It was such a fun day! We got to see a kid's concert put on in a barn and Scarlett got to "join the band" and play the washboard up on stage. She went through hay mazes and tunnels, saw some farm animals [including a mini horse!] and ended the day with a hayride to the actual patch where we got to pick out our own pumpkins to take home.

We had so much fun! I can't wait to do it again next year...

Happy Friday! This week has been insane... I feel like I've been running on empty for days now. I need a vacation!! Luckily, Nick and I are headed to a much needed concert tonight, followed by another crazy weekend. But it'll be awesome. Here's what I'm up to right now...

Reading - I'm about halfway through The Red Queen and I'm really enjoying it so far. And I just started reading the Harry Potter series to Scarlett at bedtime. Nick used to read the books to me while I was pregnant with Scarlett, so it's sweet to read them to her now.

Watching - My mom recommended American Housewife to me and I'm actually watching it right now. So far, so good! And I'm bingeing on How I Met Your Mother lately... We started watching it years ago and never got past season two, so I'm giving it another shot. It's awesome to have on during the day while I'm getting the housework done.

Anticipating - Isabelle's birthday party is tomorrow! It's a Halloween party so we'll have to get our costumes ready. Scarlett is going to be Frankie Stein from Monster High, I'm going to be a witch and Nick is going to be a Trader Joe's employee.

Listening To - We're going to see an Alestorm show tonight, so I'm spending the day listening to their songs to get psyched up for tonight!

Working On - This week has been a bit crazy with scheduling and events and stuff going on so I'm working on getting myself better organized. I have a paper planner that I hardly ever use, but I think I'm going to dust it off and put it in the kitchen so I can see it and update it every day. Hopefully that'll work.

Wishing - I'm wishing for a break. Like, one night away, preferably by the ocean and I think I'll be recharged. Now if I could only find the time...

I hope you have some fun stuff planned for this weekend! Anything amazing going on?
