Happy Friday! We made it through another week... Here's what I'm up to right now.

Reading - I had to return The Nightingale
to the library before I was even halfway finished with it so I'm going to try to read it again later. I picked up  Before I Fall
from the library the last time we were there and it's okay so far. It's already proving to be a much faster read then The Nightingale, so we'll see how it goes.

Watching - Every night before we go to bed, we end up watching at least two episodes [usually more!] of Friends. I never watched it while it was on TV but now that it's on Netflix, it's an every night occurrence around here. I think we're in season 8 by now...

Anticipating - Disneyland is fast approaching! We only have a few more weeks until it's Disney time!

Listening To - Nick and I picked up some old records when we were out on date night last weekend so I've been playing lots of Beach Boys around here lately. Nick even got a two-record set of polka music - it's hilarious!

Eating - I've been trying to eat better lately and have even sacrificed going on our weekly family outings to Five Guys [the greatest fries ever!!] to instead hang at the gym while Nick and Scarlett indulge. Nick's been bringing me home some California rolls afterward, though, so it's completely bearable.

Working On - We're still figuring out our next move as far as living arrangements go, so I kind of feel like we're stuck in limbo for a few more days. I've been purging my closet and Scarlett's toys, though, so no matter what we decide, we'll have less stuff to deal with.

Wishing - Right now I'm just wishing and praying and hoping for some certainty in our living situation. It's just getting out of control expensive in the Bay and even if we stayed exactly where we are, our rent will go up about $200 which is just too much... As much as I love living here and being where I grew up, we just can't afford it as it is for much longer. I'd like to be able to buy another house someday and it just doesn't seem like something we will be able to save for as long as we're staying here. Blargh.

I hope your week has been awesome and I hope your weekend is even better! What are you up to?

ice cream makes scarlett sleepy...

Over the weekend Nick surprised me with an unexpected date night. We grabbed some dinner and spent the rest of the evening looking through old records at Rasputin's.

After we picked Scarlett up from her grandpas house, we decided that we should go for ice cream as a family as a nice end to our date night.

Apparently Scarlett was a bit more tuckered out than we thought because she ended up eating her ice cream half asleep and then ended up giving up on the cone completely and just settling in for a nap on Nick's lap. It was one of the sweetest things I've ever seen...

I love that she even took the time to use a baby wipe to clean off her hands and face before she knocked out. So cute!

Scarlett made some pretty bold choices this week. From over the knee socks and bunny ears to actual bird feathers in her hair, she's never afraid to take a fashion risk.

memorial day...

The smell of barbecue is finally fading from the air and Memorial Day is almost over. We rode bikes, we went swimming, we ate good food.

But mostly, we remembered.

My brother says that Memorial Day is for the fallen - and I agree. But I also think that each and every soldier that gets to come home has fallen a bit, too. Each of them is broken - even if you can't see the cracks. And I think on Memorial Day [and every other day] we need to remember them and all that they gave.

To James!

gamer girl

Nick made a video for his YouTube channel last week starring Scarlett! She got to play a video game on Nick's phone and give her thoughts on it. It's pretty much my new favorite video ever and I can't wait for more episodes!

currently...

This week has been a pretty mellow one. Lots of thinking, lots of planning... Here's what I'm up to!

Reading - I'm working on The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah. I know I said that I would never read anything by her again [her books absolutely KILL me and make me cry all the tears] but I've heard only good things about this book and I can see why. So far I'm really enjoying it and have only cried once. Progress!

Watching - We've been on a serious Friends binge lately. Every night before we go to sleep, we watch at least three episodes. Thank goodness they're on Netflix now.

Anticipating - We have a Disneyland trip coming up in a few weeks that Scarlett is super excited for. And after Disneyland, we're heading right to Temecula to visit with family while Nick goes to E3 in LA for a few days. It's going to be a super busy week!

Listening To - Lots of the Patsy Cline station on Pandora. Always a good one.

Eating - I've been trying to eat more whole foods and less snacky things so I've been stocking up on veggies to use in the Veggetti, plus a bunch of fruit that I can just grab when I'm feeling hungry. So far, so good.

Working On - Our lease for our apartment is up in a few months so we've been trying to decide what our next move is going to be. Looking for apartments in the Bay Area is exhausting and super depressing - it's beyond expensive around here. But looking farther away makes me a little sad about the prospect of leaving friends and family behind. We'll figure it out - hopefully soon!

Wishing - Lately I've been wishing for a few hours of alone time for myself - but it's a double edged sward because if I get the chance to have some time to myself, I don't want to give up time with my family to get it. I want both time to be alone, but also time with Nick and Scarlett. Mom life - blargh!

I hope your week is awesome! What are you up to?

they see me rollin'...

Scarlett and I went on a mini-adventure the other day. I had found a trail during our last weekend group run and thought it would be perfect for us to go for a bike ride on, so I loaded up Scarlett's bike [mine was all locked up and I couldn't get to it] and we were off. Scarlett took off on her bike and left me in the dust, running behind her. We spent about an hour riding and running and enjoying the fresh air. I can't wait to get my bike untangled from the stuff on the patio so I can ride, too!

Here's to more bike rides!

scarlett style

We haven't been out and about very much this week so Scarlett hasn't had many chances to display her amazing style lately. But she still managed to look amazing the few times we went out!

Hopefully we'll have more rainy days in our near future - Scarlett's rain outfits are always entertaining!

mount diablo

Last week, Scarlett and I took a short drive to Mount Diablo to check it out. It was absolutely amazing. The view was incredible and we kept pulling over to the side of the road to just take it all in. We took about twenty minutes to drive to the summit and spent about an hour up there, just wandering around and enjoying the sights. We found a ladybug haven above the summit and listened to the thunder roll in...

We definitely need to spend more time there. Scarlett said she wants to go at least once a week. I think I can agree to that!
