goals update!

Back in March I posted a list of my goals for 2014. Here's an update!

Read 30 books - So far, I've read 11 out of 30. I need to step my game up! I think when I read paper books instead of e-books, it takes me longer because I don't tend to read in bed as much since I'd need to leave a light on. Maybe I should try more e-books during the second half of the year...

Walk 500 miles - So far, I've walked over 355 miles and counting. I'm ahead of my target!

Watch 20 movies - I've watched 24 movies so far! I beat my goal!

Stick to a weekly housekeeping schedule - Ummm.... Not so much. Although, in my defense, we got the house looking pretty decent when we were on the market and now that we're in escrow, it's slipped a bit, but during packing, that's to be expected, right? And it'll be much easier once we're in a much smaller home.

Wake up earlier [like at 7am] - Some days I'm on top of this. Others, not so much. But again, once Nick's commute gets so much shorter, I think having the same schedule will be much easier.

Get rid of 40 bags/boxes of stuff - SIMPLIFY! - We're all over this one. Since we're going to be downsizing our living quarters my so much, getting rid of stuff and not accumulating new stuff has been much easier. And we're still going strong. I'm sure by moving day, we'll have gotten rid of more things than we'll be bringing with us.

Have regular weekly date nights - We haven't made this as much of a priority as we should have so far. Hopefully living closer to family and friends will make this a bit easier once we move - plus having more time together each day will be a major plus!

Meal plan each week - add a new recipe weekly - We still meal plan, for the most part, although we've been a bit lax about it since our vacation. I haven't done well with adding a new recipe each week, though. I've got to get on top of that!

Save up for a Disneyland vacation - Well, we totally blew this one. We're kind of cheating on this goal, since we promised Scarlett that once we sold the house, we could take her to Disneyland for Halloween and we're planning on using a bit of the money we make from the sale to pay for it. But still, I'm going to count it.

Lose ten pounds by June and another ten by December - I totally lost almost ten pounds this month so far, but not because I was being extra healthy or anything. Being sick was a fantastic diet and I've honestly just used it as a jumping off point to try and eat better and walk more. Since I'm feeling almost 100% better now, I can step up my workouts and be more active. I've still got a few days to go...

Improve our credit score - I think we've been better about getting on top of our debts and accounts and once the house is sold, we're planning on clearing out all of our little random debts that have piled up.

It looks like I've still got a ways to go on my goals for a lot of these, but we're only halfway through the year. I can do it!

Do you have any goals you're working on for this year?

fabric & fake flowers...

I took my mom to Hobby Lobby for the first time yesterday and she loved it... She said no less than three times that she needs to come back with a truck! We spent a ton of time perusing the silk flower aisles - they were so pretty! And I got a serious crafty craving when we got to the fabric - I need to get my sewing machine out and make some dresses and skirts for Scarlett!

Are you working on anything crafty?

new kicks...

Nick got me some new walking shoes on Saturday and I got a chance to break them in this morning. I'm up to 351.43 miles so far in my 500 miles in 2014 challenge. At this rate, I only need to average less than a mile per day to beat my goal of 500 miles by the end of the year!

Scarlett even got some new sparkly shoes to wear on our walks! They light up!

I can't wait until we move closer to the bay again so I can walk more often along the marina and hike at Lake Chabot all the time...

love & cupcakes,

Scarlett is pretty convinced that she's a kitty...

Happy Friday! We made it through another week! One week ago I had to make a visit to the ER in Temecula while I was on vacation because I got a pretty bad case of pneumonia. I'm still taking medicine and resting up as much as Scarlett will let me, but I'm feeling much better than I did a week ago, thank goodness! Here's what I'm currently up to...

Reading - I finally finished the Divergent trilogy while I was on vacation last week. I enjoyed it but really missed the intensity of the first two books by the time I got to the third. What should I read next?

Watching - I'm still making my way through Hart of Dixie. I really love Lemon's clothes!

Anticipating - We're celebrating Father's Day this weekend [I was too sick last weekend and my brother was out of town] and I can't wait to spend the day lounging in the pool at my parents' house while we barbecue.

Listening To - I've been playing a lot of Lana Del Rey on Spotify lately... It sounds like summer to me - moody and brooding and a bit sad.... I'm not a summer girl.

Eating - Not much. Being sick is a great diet although it's impossible to keep up. I lost over five pounds while I was sick and I still haven't quite recovered enough to eat like I normally do. Maybe this is my chance to change my diet and eat more fresh and raw foods since the thought of heavier meals is still pretty tough to think about...

Working On - Looking for a new place to live! On my way to the ER last week we got a call from our realtor that someone had put in an offer on our house. We countered and they accepted so the clock is ticking! We only have until the middle of July to have a new place to live! I've been looking online like crazy but it's tough to tell from a computer screen if it would someplace we'd like to live or not... We're going to spend Saturday apartment hunting, though, so hopefully we'll find something we love!

Wishing - That someone would just come along and pack up our house for us. It seems like a near impossible task... So many things!

How is your week going? What have you been up to?

artsy fartsy...

One of my absolute favorite things that Scarlett does is paint. She makes the most amazing watercolor paintings and has such a good time doing it. I love watching her go for it...

I have a feeling that our next home is going to have to have a gallery wall dedicated to Miss Scarlett's art!

love & cupcakes,

We spent last week visiting family in Southern California and we got a chance to go visit the San Diego Zoo Safari Park! I was feeling pretty under the weather [turned out I had pneumonia!] but Scarlett had a blast running around with her cousins, looking at all the animals.

We had such a fun day! I can't wait to bring Nick next time.

daddy day

Nick is the raddest, funnest, coolest, bestest daddy around...
Just ask Scarlett. She'll happily tell you all about him.

rose red...

Getting surprise flowers makes me incredibly happy.
Especially when they're my favorite color, too.

our last fiesta!

We're in the process of selling our house so it's highly likely that this year's Apricot Fiesta will be our last... We wandered around a few weekends ago and had some hot, sweaty fun downtown. Scarlett played in an inflatable pirate ship, we drank a ton of lemonade and ate blue cotton candy, Scarlett got an inflatable mermaid toy that she promptly and originally named "Ariel" and we ended the afternoon with a swim in the community pool. All in all, a nice ending to our fiesta time in Patterson...

tahoe part seven - bits...

This is it! The last Tahoe post! We made it through about a million pictures!!

These are some shots of random little outings and adventures we had in Tahoe and on our way home... We played at the arcade, went out for a sushi date night, took naps, got to see Maleficent opening day, met up with a friend from high school for birthday drinks, and let Scarlett play with the camera on my phone during a coffee break on our drive home...

This was by far one of my favorite family vacations ever. It was so wonderful to unplug a bit and just spend time hanging out together. I can't wait to do it again...
