She's a nature girl!

Tonight is date night and Nick and I are off to a concert in San Francisco to have some grown-up time! Woo hoo! Here's what I'm up to right now...

Reading - I'm slogging my way through The Interestings and I just can't get into it. I have to return it to the library by tomorrow and it looks like I'm going to need to check it out again another time. Now, I just need to find a book for book club for March!

Watching - I'm almost finished with season five of Gossip Girl - only one more season to go! And Nick and I have been watching House of Cards on Netflix - so good!

Anticipating - Date night! And our joint birthday rollerskating party next weekend. I can't wait for Scarlett to try out her new skates!

Listening To - I added a bunch of Mae to my Spotify playlist. I forgot how much I like them!

Eating - Nothing special lately... Although, I'm really craving some Chipotle now. I might need to make that happen soon!

Working On - Clearing out and purging most of our stuff. We're hoping to move closer to the Bay in the upcoming months and we seriously need to downsize.

Wishing - For Nick to take more random weekdays off. I had a blast the other day for my birthday - it would be amazing to get to have family days more often.

What are you up to?

rain at the beach...

Yesterday, Nick and Scarlett took me to Half Moon Bay for my birthday. It was raining like crazy but we braved the downpour to walk down to the ocean and I'm so happy we did.

True to form, Scarlett ended up face down in the ocean, fully clothed. It just wouldn't be a trip to the beach without a soaking wet child to bring home, right?? She had a blast though and so did I.

We got amazing coffees and huge, delicious cookies at the Half Moon Bay Coffee Company. So good!

After our day at the ocean, we ended the night with dinner and pie with my family. All in all, it was an awesome birthday.

Now, to get ready to celebrate Nick's birthday next week!

love & cupcakes,

it's my birthday!

Today I turn 34. Where has the time gone?!?

I'm off to spend the day drinking coffee and staring at the ocean with my two favorite people...

sunday salad...

Yesterday's Sunday Salad was a bit intense.

We used romaine lettuce, corn, cheese and cucumbers and topped it off with some crushed tortilla chips and the kicker - Nick's insane habanero SWAGsauce. It was super yummy, but a bit too spicy for me. I really like using barbecue sauce as a salad dressing though - it gives us our BBQ fix without any meat necessary!

rockstar moms

This week's Rockstar Mom is my mom!

NameCindy Bischoff

OccupationManager, Kaiser Permanente

Blog or website link, if any [Instagram or Twitter works, too]I read Caffeinated Cupcakes, I have none of my own...wouldn't know what to do with it anyway.

Kids names and agesElissa Huggett, almost 34; Tyler Newman, 31; Alana Bischoff-Chan, 29

Where do you call home?  Hayward, California...almost all my life!

What does a normal day look like for you?  Urgh!  Up between 5 and 5:30 am, off to work by 7:30, home usually by 5:30ish, relaxing with my family, in bed early (quiet zone) watching TV with my husband of almost 30 years.

What is your favorite thing to do with your child[ren]?  Spend quality time with them.  Nothing like coloring with your granddaughters or shopping and coffee with your daughters.  I love to listen to my son talk about his life.  I am so proud of all of my children; they have all grown up to be beautiful people with exceptional hearts.

Advice you wish you'd followed when you first became a momGet rid of the lists, they will do nothing but overwhelm you.  We know what needs to get done.

Imagine you have an entire child-free day - What would you do with yourself?  I have no idea what that is like anymore.  Probably wander through he house picking up toys, shoes and socks.

Any advice for new moms out there?  Be patient, there really isn't a "how to" book that works.  Listen to your heart and pray.

Thank you so much for being our very first Rockstar Mom!

love & cupcakes,

happy hearts day!

My favorite day of the year is finally here! Happy Hearts Day!

Give out a ton of love and kisses today!

love & cupcakes,

Last weekend I attempted to make my own donuts at home using the biscuit method I read about on A Beautiful Mess.  Aside from making my candy thermometer explode, it was a success! Just a few tweaks needed for next time and I think they'll be perfect!

I made chocolate with sprinkles, Nutella, cinnamon sugar and powdered sugar donuts.

Scarlett even helped to add sprinkles!

She totally loved them! I'll definitely make more...

sunday salad...

This week's salad was pretty basic - romaine, spinach, carrots, cucumbers, shredded cheese and garlic croutons - but still so yummy!

love & cupcakes,

all the small things...

Just hanging on the porch, watching the rain with this girl is the best kind of morning...

love & cupcakes,

She can be such a sweetie...

Well, it's been quite a while since I've done a "Currently" post - this will be my first one in 2014!

Reading - I've been taking my sweet time getting through Primavera by Francesca Lia Block. Hopefully I'll finish this week!

Watching - I've been playing catch up lately and I've flown through Once Upon a Time and I've only got one episode left of Once upon a Time in Wonderland until I'm completely back on track with the current season.

Anticipating - The Walking Dead comes back this weekend!!! I'm so excited!

Listening To - The "Frozen" soundtrack has been on nonstop repeat ever since Scarlett saw the movie. Luckily it's pretty good...

Eating - So many yummy salads! We missed out on our Salad Sunday last weekend since we were out for the Superbowl, but we'll get back into it this week for sure. So much yumminess!

Working On - Organizing and purging the house. Hopefully, we'll be looking to move within the year so we need to majorly downsize our living... Baby steps.

Wishing - For more of this rain! I know that the rest of the country has been having a super cold and wet/snowy winter but California has been dry as a bone! Luckily, it looks like we may be starting to get a bit of much needed rain and I'm in heaven! I love rainy days!

I hope your week has been awesome! What are you up to?
