Mother's Day Wishlist

Mother's Day is fast approaching! All I really want is to be able to spend the day with my little girl and my man - preferably somewhere near the ocean and with copious amounts of coffee!

But, in case anyone was wondering what else might tickle my fancy, here are some things I've come across that are super awesome.

I'm always down for a trophy or two...

I love this glass from CB2!

I totally want a pencil sharpener for my office!

I wouldn't mind a photo book or canvas print of this little lady!

And since we're dreaming here, I definitely wouldn't mind a black diamond ring!

What are you getting for your mom this year?

This girl can rock her snow boots with anything and make it look good!

love & cupcakes,

she was a skater girl...

We got Scarlett some beginner roller skates and she took to them like a champ! She was trucking around the house and the park and even went off by herself for a while and tried them out. I was totally impressed.

She had to get her "turtles" [pads] put on, too!

I LOVE this picture!

I'm looking forward to many more skating days!

My sister gave Scarlett some little bug car toys and she's completely in love with them!

We're right in the middle of a mini stay-cation and even though we've all come down with gross colds, we're making the most of our lazy days... I love when we don't have anything scheduled except for catching up on TV and playing. Heavenly. Here's what I've been up to lately!

Reading -- "John Belushi Is Dead"
I've had this book for quite a while now but I'm just now checking it out. I'm only a few pages in so I'm not sure how much I'll enjoy it, but it seems interesting so far! It's probably going to be my book for this month's book club - hopefully I'll finish on time!

Watching -- I'm embarrassingly behind on the TV shows we usually watch. I've been trying to catch up on "Once Upon a Time", but it's going to take me a while to get current. We just finished Mad Men season five. I can't wait for season six to show up on Netflix!

Anticipating -- My mom sent me an email the other day to let me know that there is going to be a Norway Day festival in San Francisco next weekend! I'm so excited! We get so nerdy when we go to Scandinavian events. I love it!

Listening To -- I just rediscovered my love of the Romeo + Juliet soundtrack. I love soundtracks from 90s movies!

Eating -- We just made mini pizzas with the mini pizza maker we got for Christmas from Nick's sister - so yum! We're still figuring out the kinks but I think next time they'll be extra good!

Working On -- We have a list of things to do around the house during this stay-cation, but nothing has been touched yet. So tomorrow, we need to get cracking!

Wishing -- That this little stay-cation could go on forever! It's so nice having Nick around - Scarlett is having a blast having so much daddy time and I get little breaks throughout the day. I almost forgot what it was like to be able to go to the bathroom with the door closed during the day! It's the little things... ♥

I hope your weekend is lovely!

the cheese swings alone...

Sometimes Scarlett can be such a demanding little monster.

But then I see a picture like this and I'm reminded how sweet and fun she usually is.

My little stinker.

love & cupcakes,

You'd think that after over a year of being at home I would have it all figured out.

But nope - I'm still making adjustments and changing things that don't work. And I'm beyond thankful for those in my life that are always there to help, listen, offer advice or just grab a coffee with me. I'd be completely lost without you.

Seeing this one so sleepy after an awesome day at the park is the best...

love & cupcakes,

I think that I'm just tired...

I think I need a new town, to leave this all behind...
I think I need a sunrise, I'm tired of the sunset...

Once upon a time, another lifetime ago, I packed up all of my belongings and stood in line for a stand-by flight to Boston where I was going to start over again. Literally just before I boarded the plane, I got a phone call from my cousin telling me not to get on because plans may have changed and I might not have to move out East after all. Plans were scrambled and belongings were stored somewhere in Ohio and I never did make that big move. But I did get the chance to go and pick my cousin up from Boston and spend a few days there and I still think fondly of my almost-adopted city to this day. I've always wanted to go back and bring Nick and Scarlett with me this time.

My heart is aching for Boston right now.

one year and counting...

Today is April 9th. It's been one year since my first day as an official stay at home mom.

I thought my house would be much cleaner by now.
I thought I would be an amazing cook by now.
I thought I would be in much better shape by now.
I thought I would have perfected the look of a classic 50s housewife/mother by now.

Not so much.

But, I can say that I'm getting this stay at home thing down a bit. Scarlett and I have a [loose] routine that we kind of stick to. We leave a lot of wiggle room for things like trashing the living room with all of her toys and spending the morning at a park after our walk. You know, the important stuff.

I've learned to cook a wider variety of meals for dinner - not just reheated frozen food, either. I've learned to decipher a ton of what Scarlett says in her toddler gibberish. I've walked over 188 miles since October of 2012. I've made and ignored countless housework schedules and just do what needs to be done when it needs to be done.

Scarlett and I have been to parks and coffee shops, libraries and Targets. We've walked, run, hopped and crawled all over the place. We've survived house-guests and weekends without Nick. We've had tantrums and cuddle-fests. Long naps and no naps at all. Movie marathons and dance parties. Smooches and hugs.

All in all it seems like a pretty good way to spend a year.

Getting There...

I've gone over 145 miles so far this year in my 365 Miles in 2013 personal challenge.

I'm starting to really like walking! On days that I don't go, I really feel the difference. I get sluggish and lazy and don't want to do anything or I end up restless and annoyed that I haven't walked! I think I'm creating a habit! I even got some snazzy new shoes to wear on my walks!

Here's to 220 more miles!

Coyote Hills

Yesterday, Scarlett, my mom and my friend Jamie all came hiking with me at Coyote Hills in Fremont. We had such a great time and we ended up hiking over six miles! We may or may not have gotten a little lost, but whatever.

I can't wait to do it again!
