oven s'mores

I attempted to make s'mores in the oven the other night-- not a total fail, but there's definitely room for improvement. Major improvement.

At first I used a piece of Ferrero Rocher candy for the chocolate portion and put the graham crackers, chocolate and marshmallow on a cookie sheet in the oven with the broiler on high. The poor mallows got fried but the chocolate didn't melt all the way through. Next time, I think I'll try to cut the chocolate in half so it gets more melty.

I tried the second batch with dark chocolate chips instead and set the broiler to low. The marshmallows still got toasty but the chocolate melted perfectly.

Nick didn't seem to mind the not so amazing s'mores...

love & cupcakes,

Nick went out to water the backyard the other day so we let Scarlett run around a bit...
Little did we know she would decide to jump into the spray from the hose and completely soak herself!

Looks like we need to get the kiddie pool set up ASAP!

megan mondays...

My two best friends and I don't usually have a bunch of time to hang out -- especially time that syncs up with each other's schedules! But amazingly, this summer it looks as though our Mondays are open for some quality friend time [albeit kids will be in tow, but such is life...]. Jessica started calling them "Megan Mondays" since Megan's schedule is the most hectic.

This past Monday we actually got to spend most of the day together! We took the kids to the splash park here in town, ate a ton of fruit that Megan brought with her and just had a blast!

Here's to many more "Megan Mondays" this summer!

love & cupcakes,

i love this...

I totally need this for all of my books [although I'm not too keen on lending them out to anyone!]

So cute!

I want these prints for our house!

I'm missing fall like crazy around here lately...

scarlett style...

Scarlett has decided to start choosing her own accessories when we [finally!] get around to getting dressed during the day...

After she picked out her "hat" [helmet] and "shoes" [boots that are at least a size too big for her] we went outside to chase bubbles...

My little bubble destroying wizard.

love & cupcakes,

This week has been a tough one... Lots of unforeseen yuckiness.
But next week will be better. Heck - tomorrow will be better!

Here's what I'm up to currently...

Reading -- The Throne of Fire by Rick Riordan. Another totally cheesy young adult book, but I just can't help myself. I promise to try to read a more mature book soon. Maybe. =]

Watching -- Lots of Mad Men still. We just started the fourth season. I admit it took me a while to kind of get into the series, but I'm pretty into it now.

Anticipating -- A Huggett wedding in Santa Cruz next month! It's my favorite city ever and I can't wait to take a few days to just hang out, relax and have fun.

Listening To -- We're pretty obsessed with the Rio soundtrack over here. Scarlett needs to watch the movie at least twice a day [usually more!] and whenever we're in the car, she needs to hear the soundtrack. Luckily, it's pretty good.

Telling the World (RiO soundtrack) by Taio Cruz on Grooveshark

Eating -- Whatever I can make... We desperately need to go grocery shopping so until we do, I have to get pretty creative with what we have on hand.

Working On -- Creating a household budget. We've done this before, but mostly out loud. We needed to commit it to paper so we don't stray. We're pretty bad with impulse purchasing around here.

Wishing -- The temperatures could drop like they have in the Bay. It's not as hot as it's been, but it's still too hot for me!

Hope your week has been better than mine! Happy Friday!
What are you up to currently???

love & cupcakes,

temecula weekend

Last weekend we made our way down to Southern California again to see the family...

Madison had her birthday party and Scarlett lost her mind with happiness at the waterslides!

She even got to go on rides with her Grandma Candy!

She met a boy...

And got all flirty!

So many Monster High things! I was so jealous!

On Sunday we went swimming and Scarlett turned into a complete water baby!

We could only keep her out of the water long enough to destroy some corn chips!

It was a super fun weekend!
