mom's day wishes....

For Mother's Day this year, I'm not sure what I'd like to do yet. Just spend some quality time with my loves is all I can think of for now...

And maybe one or two other things...

Like a gorgeous fingerprint necklace...

Or a ceramic farmer's basket...

Or a nice new book for me to read... [which may or may not already be in my Amazon cart -- hint hint!]

love & cupcakes,

ladies & gentlemen...

...We've got a climber!

We're in for some trouble with this little daredevil!

She saw my dad climb up a ladder into the attic...

So up that ladder she went, right behind him!

I'm going to need to buy a helmet for her and more wine for me!

birthday buddies!

Scarlett got to visit her Uncle Tyler last week! They're birthday buddies -- she was born on his birthday, even though I tried to hold it off like he asked me to. I still ended up missing his birthday dinner that year. =/

She made herself right at home at my brother's place...

And she got to meet the birdie that lives at my brother and cousin's apartment! She loved it!

I think a trip to the zoo is in order...

i feel the need...

The need to get crafty!

I really need to buckle down and get my craft room/office in shape. I have supplies all over the place! And since it's so disorganized lately, I have no desire to even go in there! Can't get much accomplished when you don't even go into the room!

Wish me luck!

dance magic dance!

Scarlett and I watched [most] of Labyrinth yesterday afternoon while we waited for Daddy to come home. It was her first time seeing it!

She was pretty into it!

I see more rainy day movie afternoons in our future...

"It's only forever... Not long at all!"

brand new day....

Some days it gets tough around here.

Staying at home is a lot harder than I thought it would be. But I wouldn't trade it for anything else.

Even our worst days at home together are better than our best days apart.

love & cupcakes,

It was so freaking hot around here this past weekend... We're not fans of warm weather. Although, it does make for some super cute Scarlett pictures, so we'll take it on occasion.

We hit up the [thankfully air-conditioned!] mall on Saturday and Scarlett checked out the little water fountain out front. She was a bit confused at first [the water shoots up from the ground randomly] but once she figured it out, she was all into it. Her poor dress never stood a chance.

On Sunday we went to Lowe's to get a lawnmower and some yard stuff.

Scarlett helped to pick one out.

I live for weekends now - staying at home with the little one all week makes for little grown-up conversation. And this weekend we're hitting Ikea with my parents! So excited!!!! I get to finally spend my birthday money and get some more bookcases for our library! Woo hoo!

getting my hands dirty...

I have a black thumb.

Like a MAJOR black thumb. I can kill any plant - almost without trying at all. That being said, I can't deal with the barren/wild landscape that we have going on in the front and back yards right now. They're either covered in weeds and craziness or just dirt and rock. Not much in between.

We've decided that getting the backyard in shape is going to be our first big project now that I'm home to do things like water the lawn and watch for weeds and all that. So today I went out and planted some daisies to get the ball rolling.

I forgot how sensitive my poor skin is so now I'm covered in red splotches and my arms and hands are all itchy. But I managed to get all five daisy plants in the ground. Hooray!

Now, if only they could stay alive long enough to take root... Fingers crossed!

Here's to dinner and drinks in the backyard sooner rather than later!

getting into the swing of things...

We're getting into our little routine at the Huggett House.

Monday - Try to clean up from inevitable weekend laziness.
Tuesday - Mama's day off - it's a toss up whether I'll be productive or super lazy. And I'm fine with that.
Wednesday - Scarlett is usually a bit amped up on Wednesdays - probably all the leftover craziness from seeing all of her friends at daycare the day before.
Thursday - Our quiet day. Things usually get back to normal a bit and there are extra snuggles and books to read all day.
Friday - So far, we've been out of the house on Friday. Visiting the Bay and getting some car-necessary errands done. I get cabin fever from being cooped up in the house all week and the Starbucks run in the morning is positively heavenly. Almost makes up for the fact we have to be on the road by 6am. Almost.

Once the weather makes up it's mind about what season it is, we're going to start getting the backyard set up. It's only been over three years since we moved in - about time to do some stuff. And Scarlett is dying to go outside constantly. It would be so nice to be able to let her run around while I drink my coffee on the back porch in my jammies. Once we have a back porch that is.

Until then - our crazy house is going to have to do.

And we're pretty happy with our little routine for now.

a very blustery day...

The valley wind is a-kickin' around these parts today. Which is a shame because I really wanted to take Scarlett to the park again. We went yesterday and she ran and ran and ran.... And had the best night's sleep ever! She went down for bed at about 9pm [later than usual but we had to wait for Daddy to get home and tuck her in] and I didn't hear a peep out of her until after 8.30 this morning! So nice! And when she finally did wake up, she was happily playing in her crib and talking to her stuffed animals until I went in to say good morning.

See that tiny little speck up there in the middle of all that grass?
That's Scarlett on her way back from chasing birds all around the field.

Checking out the rock wall...

Heading home...

Note to self - Get to the park as often as possible!

so wasteful...

Disclaimer -
I'm highly embarrassed about this post, but I can't help but put it out there.
Now I can't let us fall back into our old ways....

One of the first things that I wanted to do around the house once I became a stay at home mom was clean out our food pantry in the kitchen. It had become a catch-all for everything and it was so crowded that the food we had couldn't even be gotten to so we ended up just buying replacement food for things we already had. Not a pretty picture. So today, I decided to get down a dirty with the pantry and start clearing stuff out.

Dear Lord.

I've had to throw out at least six or seven garbage bags of food [thankfully none of it moldy or "bad" - just old and stale] and I'm not even halfway done. I'm just taking a quick break and I honestly am amazed at how much stuff we had crammed in there.

I mean, seriously?!?!? Fifteen boxed of cereal??? It's like I'm at Jerry Seinfeld's house! Insane!

Thankfully, now I'll be able to actually see what we have to eat already in the house and hopefully use it to make meals that are better than just hitting up the drive-thru.

I feel so darn wasteful though.

And the random food items that we had in there - wow. Just wow.

It's looking much better in there already though.

So much space to add some yummy, good stuff!

Wish me luck as I attempt to finish - I don't know how much more our garbage bin can handle!

love & cupcakes,

oh tuesday...

Both my favorite and least favorite day all in one...

Tuesdays are my "day off" - Scarlett goes to daycare with Nick in the morning and then comes home with him after work so I get mostly the entire day all to myself. I can catch up on chores [which I really should do] or just hang out and read and watch bad TV [what I usually end up doing]. It's nice to be able to get the bigger chores out of the way like killing all of the laundry in one day or vacuuming all over the house. But it gets lonely around here without a crazy little one under my feet all day. I got used to it pretty quickly.

love & cupcakes,

my new favorite song....

So good. ♥

love & cupcakes,

white out...

We went to Tahoe last weekend to visit Nick's sister Kelsey and ended up on the scariest road trip of our lives!
It snowed sooooo much as we drove [crept!] over the mountain that there were moments that I seriously considered just pulling over and waiting it out. It was beyond scary.

But once we arrived over the mountain, all was good [also, the fact that our first stop after arriving was Cabo Wabo probably helped a bit, too] and we had a blast.

Scarlett's first step into the snow... She face-planted.

But she recovered right away and off she went!

We made so many tracks all through the fresh powder...

Nick put snow on Scarlett's head...

Which she didn't quite understand...

So Nick helped her to put some on his, too. ♥

My snow angels.

love & cupcakes,

disneyland photo dump - part two!

We took about a million photos in Disneyland... We just can't help ourselves. Prepare yourself for a photo dump of epic proportions. Sorry!

Three generations...

All I wanted was an ice cream from the Gibson Girl! Blargh!!!

Like father, like daughter!

Somebody got into the water play area!

Tuckered out...

Seriously... These two.

It rained so badly on Saturday!

But she still had a blast!

We even checked out the Blue Bayou for lunch!

Ariel has the best hair...

I got a new jacket since it was so freaking cold and wet!

That's all the Disneyland pictures for now - I promise. =]
